Role

We have a great opportunity within our procurement department for an Assistant Buyer to join our team based at our Leeds head office, West Yorkshire. As our Assistant Buyer, reporting directly to the Senior Buyer you will work closely with the Senior Buyer to provide direct procurement support for all projects throughout the country.

This vacancy will suit an enthusiastic and confident person with an interest in learning new construction methods and best practice procurement processes. You will be working closely within a small buying team, engaging with GMI office staff, site-based staffand our wider external supply chain.

Good analytical and communication skills – GCSE Grade 6 or above (or equivalent) in Maths & English

Operational understanding of Microsoft Office Outlook Excel, Word

Communication and an ability to positively influence those around you is essential

Organisation and ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines.

Analysis of information and make best value recommendations under pressure.

Confident in communicating with internal staff and external suppliers using email and telephone.

Ability to operate in a changing and busy environment and work within business rules and guidelines.

Enjoy meeting new people and developing professional working relationships at all business levels.

Main Role Responsibilities

Forward planning and scheduling of materials and plant

Assisting the day-to-day Procurement activity to service the build departments requirements.

Preparing invitations to tender

Sourcing and negotiating best value from existing and new suppliers

Ensuring capacity available from preferred supply partners

Managing hired plant and purchased assets across multiple locations

Supporting Aftercare department and organising replacement products

Resolving invoice queries with supply chain and GMI Accounts

Reporting on all expenditure

Administrative work to support the above

 

Experience & Qualifications

Desired Experience Required:

Experienced in using, COINS, Excel, Word etc

Desired People Qualities:

Good analytical and communication skills

Full UK driving licence

Organisation and ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines.

Confident in communicating with internal staff and external suppliers using email and telephone.

Enjoy meeting new people and developing professional working relationships at all business levels.

Desired Qualifications:

Level 3 Construction Design & Build Technician

Apprenticeship or similar qualifications
