Class act at B3, Thorpe Park

Class act at B3, Thorpe Park

GMI Construction is hitting the top heights on behalf of our client Scarborough Group International as our B3 site at Thorpe Park really takes shape.

It’s a job that ticks every box; safety, community, teamwork, delivery, partnerships and professionalism. The team are making things happen, against a backdrop of some challenging market circumstances, and that’s not gone unnoticed by our business.

Martin Watson, Construction Director, said: “Jobs like these simply don’t come up and out of the ground. The whole site team, from operations to design and commercial and safety are working together to develop what will be another stunning addition to our GMI portfolio. I’m really pleased with progress.”

As our longstanding relationship with Scarborough goes from strength to strength, the site team continue to deliver.

It’s a job that can be seen from miles around and it’s one Leigh Bennett, Senior Project Manager, is proud of.

“We’re proud of the job and what we are doing here at GMI in Thorpe Park,” Leigh said as he leads the team in building an office space (133,118 sq ft) which will be the envy of the business community in Leeds.

“We have a good team in place,” he added

“There’s a lot to do and we are getting through it, delivering quality, doing it safely and to the highest possible standards.”

The site set up is among the best in the business. An opening Considerate Constructors score of ‘40’ suggests the team are heading in the right direction as GMI looks to bag another Gold Award.

The viewing platform will be the envy of other Project Managers in our business as our team get a ‘birds eye view’ of the site.

However, the intricacy of the work being delivered by the team and our dedicated supply chain is most admirable. The scale of the civil engineering piece is something else. We excavated 50,000 sq. metres of earth and redeployed it on site – all in line with our sustainability goals and keeping the job to carbon neutral.

The building, which will extend over seven floors with two levels of underground podium parking and amenity below, marks the evolution in the design of out-of-town office space and is being constructed in line with the very latest health and wellbeing standards.

Other big site contributions have come from team members: Callum Hepples, Senior QS, Steve Hudson, Senior Site Manager, Dominic Dickinson, Site Manager, Michael Dunnigan, Design Coordinator, and Ryan Smith, Trainee QS.
