GMI announces new contract to develop 125,000 sq. ft. speculative distribution unit

GMI Construction Group has confirmed that it been awarded a new £5.7 million contract by Rula Developments to construct a 125,000 sq. ft distribution unit.

The site was recently acquired by Bramall Properties Limited and the completed unit is being marketed to let or for purchase by joint agents Knight Frank and Colliers International.

The development will be finished to a high specification and include 12m eaves, a 50m yard, 12 dock level loading doors, two ground level loading doors, 23 HGV spaces, 80 car parking spaces, fitted office accommodation and up to 1MVA power supply.

Speaking about the instruction Lee Powell GMI Divisional Managing Director said: “GMI continues to make great strides in terms of securing projects in the industrial/distribution sector and we are delighted to have been awarded this contract by Rula Developments.

This project represents the sixth logistics/industrial contract we have either completed or been awarded so far during 2020 totalling approximately 850,000 sq. ft. which is a tremendous achievement for GMI in spite of these challenging times we are in”

Ben Ward, Managing Director, Rula Developments, said: “We are excited to be involved in a development which will satisfy a demand for modern industrial and logistics space along the M1.”

The scheme is also being supported by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council through its Enterprising Barnsley team.

Cllr Tim Cheetham, cabinet spokesperson for regeneration and culture at Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, said: “We are delighted that Bramall Properties will be providing such a high quality development in a first class location in Barnsley. This is great news for the borough, providing further opportunities to boost our local jobs market and Barnsley’s economy.”

Maple 125 will be built on Maple Road in the Tankersley area of Barnsley and existing neighbours include Distinction Doors, HSBC and ITAB UK. The site benefits from immediate access to the M1 Motorway at Junction 36, approximately 1 mile to the East. The M18, A1 (M) and M62 are also easily accessible.
