As part of GMI Construction Group’s ongoing commitment to engage, inspire and encourage more individuals into the construction industry through their Getting More Involved programme, they recently welcomed HNC Construction students from New College Durham to showcase their work at Dragon Lane Retail Park in Durham.
Through the Getting More Involved programme, the team at GMI Construction which included Stuart Walker (Project Manager) Gary Gardiner (Contracts Manager) and Kevin Yates (SHE Manager) provided the HNC students with an overview of the project and some of the interesting challenges which they faced during the build programme.
The students were provided with a brief overview of GMI Construction, the build programme, project planning and challenges associated with the project. They were then given the opportunity to ask more questions of Stuart, Gary and Kevin around the environmental challenges, Health & Safety and management of the sub-contractors.
Since the project started on site in August 2018, the team has worked collaboratively to deliver many progressive steps ranging from positive engagement with their supply chain and external partners to engaging with the local Universities to identify areas of need such as apprenticeships, employment initiatives and training new and existing staff.
