GMI’s objective is to ensure we select and manage our supply chain in such a way that adds value and drives down costs. Recent initiatives have seen our business move towards “partnering” style arrangements with our key sub-contractors and suppliers. We have targeted and developed very strong relationships with key trades as follows: M&E engineers, structural steelwork and in-situ concrete, various external cladding solutions, glazing, geotechnical engineers, acoustic, finishes and piling specialists.

As expectations rise and construction times shorten, we have developed procedures to help reduce lead-in times.

We want long-term relationships with our sub-contractors and suppliers and want to work with companies who share our objectives and business philosophies.

Supply Chain

Our aim is to replace one-off contractual relations with a steady flow of business and shared commitment towards improving performance over time.

Rather than selecting different subcontractors simply on the basis of lowest price, we seek to enter into long-term, sometimes relatively informal agreements with a smaller, targeted supply chain.

We ensure that competition is maintained by benchmarking our supply chain on their overall performance. Our sub-contractors and suppliers work together with us to deliver continuous improvement in product and processes over time.

Fostering a partnering approach and encouraging our supply chain to work closely with us will create a number of mutual benefits to be realised. These are:

  • Involvement in decision making with the client and design team.
  • Reduced overhead costs and wasted tendering costs.
  • Greater opportunity to influence the client on product and service.
  • Technical know-how and innovation encouraged.
  • Enhanced opportunity for repeat business.
  • Less confrontation – problems get resolved and information is shared.
  • Improved quality reduced costs and improved margins.
  • Provide and involve local labour force and apprenticeship/training opportunities

We have dedicated procedures set out for the selection and supervision of sub-contractors. Our database initially records the names and company details of all subcontractors and suppliers who have been evaluated for inclusion on our database initially for enquiry purposes only.  This includes:

  • Company Information
  • Geographical Capability
  • Range of Services Offered
  • Insurance Details
  • Financial Stability
  • Willingness to engage local labour/’Apprenticeship’
