As part of the BiTC Business Class initiative, GMI participated in an event to help young people understand more about the world of work and the skills required by employers.
The day comprised of a short film regarding employability, followed by exercises to identify what types of jobs are most available in Leeds, along with the employability skills that employers in the area are looking for. The students then participated in a careers speed networking session which involved the students asking questions about your job role and what relevant skills/qualifications are required to undertake this.
The finale to the event was a teamworking task to design and construct a roller-coaster using just paper and straws, along with coming up with a name, advertising poster, price of admission and sales pitch to promote the ride to the judges. The teams designing the ride judged to fulfil all the criteria won a small prize.
All the students showed tremendous enthusiasm and imagination in the completion of the task and the event.
