Office block demolition makes way for Leeds city centre scheme

Office block demolition makes way for Leeds city centre scheme

Development company S Harrison has started work on a major new student scheme called Blenheim Walk, close to Leeds city centre’s two main university campuses, which involves the demolition of a former office block.

GMI Construction has been appointed as the lead contractor on the project, a seven storey building that will offer 180 en-suite bedrooms spread across 29 cluster apartments.
The development occupies a prominent position between Leeds College of Art and Leeds Student Medical Practice.

Steve McManaman from York based S Harrison, says: “This promises to be an exceptional and sought after development at the heart of the city’s university district and within easy walking distance of Leeds city centre, so we’re delighted that work is underway.

“GMI is a highly reputable Leeds company with excellent local knowledge and a strong track record on large scale projects, which made them the ideal contractor to work with on this development.  Work clearing the site is due to complete this month and construction work will then start immediately with the scheme due to complete in time for the start of the 2018/19 academic year.”

Andy Bruce from GMI added: “This is a superb project to be working on that is designed to a high specification and will create a modern, landmark building in this fast-evolving part of Leeds, which is a key gateway into the city centre.”
